Pinot noir 2008

Published on January 27, 2010

tasting notes

Light to medium, translucent cherry red colour.
Rich nose with raspberry, ripe plum and lovely French oak.
The palate is full and intense, with plenty of ripe, plummy flavours and a firm tannin structure. Good length.
It will improve over the next three years as it gains complexity and softens due to the ageing of tannins.

vineyard

Sarsfield Estate Vineyard is located in the Lakes and Wilderness area of East Gippsland, Victoria. Vines and crop levels are carefully managed to produce grapes of the highest quality.

vintage

After 320 mm of rain in June, spring growth started slowly in the cold and waterlogged soil. Summer was cool and we had some good rainfalls.
But before we could pick all the Pinot noir grapes the temperatures suddenly soared and 3 days with 40 Degrees and more did a lot of damage to the grapes. Selective picking saved part of the crop, but this was a much smaller than usual vintage.
