Pinot noir 2005

Published on May 27, 2007

tasting notes

Light to medium red, with a hint of purple. Fragrant nose with very attractive red cherry fruit and subtle oak. The palate is medium-bodied, with a plump mid-palate and plenty of red fruit flavour. It finishes with fine, soft tannins. This is a stylish Pinot noir with beautiful balance and poise. It will develop more complexity in bottle over at least three years.

reviews

Well-balanced plum, cherry and spice with touches
of forest floor and stem; good length and impressive style.

vineyard

Sarsfield Estate Vineyard is located in the Lakes and Wilderness area of East Gippsland, Victoria. Vines and crop levels are carefully managed to produce grapes of the highest quality.

vintage

After a cold, dry and windy spring the 2004-5 growing season gave us a lush summer cooled by good rainfall. A warm, sunny autumn ripened the grapes to perfection. One of the easiest seasons we ever had.

winemaking

Fermented in small batches, hand plunged and pressed in a hand-operated basket press. The wine is matured in French oak barriques for 18 months and bottled unfiltered.
Alcohol: 14.2%, Titr. Acidity: 5.5 g/L, pH: 3.47
